Hurricane Florence, North &South Carolina coast evacuation

Uncle Joe, Aunt Elaine, Lore & Jim, Ellen & Frank and John & Debi spent the days after their move to South Carolina, unpacking and setting up the new home for Aunt Elaine & Uncle Joe.  New flooring, painting, unloading boxes, (more boxes), arranging furniture, hanging pictures, putting together new furniture pieces and a few more chores to get Joe and Elaine settled in their new home.

Two weeks later, just as Uncle Joe & Aunt Elaine thought they were settled in, along came an uninvited guest named "Florence."  With the forecast of a huge and powerful hurricane heading straight for them, it was decided that Uncle Joe and Aunt Elaine would make a quick trip (aka Evacuate) back to Florida.  John & Debi packed the car and they all set their sights for higher and safer ground.  They arrived safely at their destination of Joe & Debbie's lake house in Keystone to wait out the storm.

Turns out, thanks to Florence the family was afforded another awesome visit together.  Though it was unsettling at times, with the uncertainty of damage that Florence would bring, the Hendricks family did what the Hendricks Family does...we got together, prayed, hugged and we ATE!

Quick plans were put into action.  Joe called Thomas on Friday morning, and asked 'can you fry up some cat fish tomorrow for 40 to 50 family members?  An immediate answer was 'yes, we will make it happen.'  Our SC guests escape house had been nice and quiet but was suddenly filled with love, laughter, family and the smell of good cooking.  Saturday lunch was prepared with the help of all centered around 'Chef Toms' famous fried cat fish nuggets and hushpuppies.  Yum, yum!  Aunt Elaine sure knows how to host a party!

We

Landon's 11th Birthday

Along with the "evacuation" party, we also celebrated Landon's (Stacie's son) 11th birthday with a few friends.  Landon has the memories of a birthday that no other can match.  Who else gets to have a party with 10 of his great, great aunts & uncles and other family.  Precious memories for all.

A Note from Debbie

Joe and I are so sorry that Florence pained so many lives but we are thankful for the awesome time spent with Uncle Joe, Aunt Elaine, John and Debi.  We will treasure the late night card games with Aunt Elaine, 'cause she was not about to go to bed until we finished' and it was all I could do to hang with her!

Thankfully though, Florence only left lots of water and no real damage to our Carolina families.

We are looking forward to several more card games come Thanksgiving.

Love to you all!

Lunch in Lake Butler - August 22, 2018

A luncheon was held on August 22nd to visit with Uncle Joe and Aunt Elaine prior to them leaving their Florida home, as they are moving to the state of South Carolina to be closer to their children and families.  Lore and Ellen flew south to pack and prepare for the move, while the others prepared for their arrival.

Lore drove Joe and Elaine to Lake Butler for the luncheon, good times and short good-byes.  We enjoyed good food and family at the newly opened restaurant in town, Simmer Down.  Memories were made with aunts, uncles, cousins, near and far.  Allen, Alice and Corky thank you for making the long drive to join us. After lunch, Lore drove them back south to rest a couple days before the move.

Once the boxes were stacked and the moving truck all loaded, it was out the drive way. The next morning the car was packed with final memories and Florida was soon in their rearview mirror.  They could now begin the journey to their new home in SC.
